What Is Autism

Autism in A Nutshell

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills.

Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities. Autism is a spectrum disorder (ASD) and it affects each individual differently and at varying degrees.

Early intervention is defined as services delivered to children from birth to age 3, and research shows that it has a dramatic impact on reducing the symptoms of autism spectrum disorders. Studies in early childhood development have shown that the youngest brains are the most flexible.

In autism, we see that intensive early intervention yields a tremendous amount of progress in children by the time they enter kindergarten, often reducing the need for intensive supports.

WHAT WE DO

01.

— We Find & Fund

We  improve the lives of people affected by autism of lifetime care can be reduced by 2/3 with early diagnosis and intervention.   However families with autistic children face more challenges, with less financial resources.

Families with autistic children statistically earn 28% less than families with non-autistic children.   Because every child deserves an equal chance to thrive.

The problem does not end in school age however,90% of the costs of care, applies to adults living with Autism.  Our aim is to improve the quality of life for those who suffer with Autism while reducing the financial, emotional, and medical challenges of the family who love them.

IMPACT STORIES

Maria was diagnosed at 4 years old

Intervention in the Bay Area was challenged due to overburdened healthcare systems, it was difficult to get her into programs to help with her development. Her parents both juggled work and therapy appointments, schoolwork, and development.

Eating on the run, but with healthy foods for Maria could be challenging as she only liked french fries, and lately it seemed like more of her bubbly personality was being consumed.

Jhuma is 27 facing daily Autism Challenges in a rural village

Jhuma lives in a poor rural village where autism awareness is non-existent and where the lights of care are a rare thing. Awareness of autism is the last thing on people’s mind, as most people are all struggling for basic necessity, food, clothes and all needs.

Every single day she lives her life as a nightmare that she hopes will end, the unbearable pain with a message: “I tried to live a normal life like others, but I can’t”
